《走神儿》源于艺术家2025年参与王澈发起的闽北“走神”计划,通过在福建新年期间的民间祭祀活动,艺术家以行走作为方法,将她在寺庙中的体验化为对一种白日梦的隐喻。“走神儿”与“走神”双关,映照了信仰与现实的流动关系。作品将村民寄托于多神的信仰情感以及个人记忆转化为悬挂织物,以祠堂幢幡为坐标,探讨“弱纪念碑性”,以柔软与流动对抗永恒与中心化的权力叙事。
Originating from the artist’s participation in Lost in Encountering, a field research initiative led by curator Wang Che in northern Fujian, this work draws upon local New Year worship rituals. Using walking as both method and metaphor, the artist transforms her temple experiences into a state of reverie. The title Earth Dreaming (Zou Shen’er)—a play on the Chinese term Zou Shen, which refers both to the ritual and to a transcendent, daydream-like state—evokes the fluid and porous boundaries between faith and reality. Translating local people’s polytheistic emotions and fragmented memories into suspended textile forms, the work references temple banners and explores the notion of “weak monumentality”—an ethics of space that privileges softness, fluidity, and becoming over permanence, solidity, and centralized power.

“走神 (Zou Shen)” originally refers to a communal worship ritual held during the Lunar New Year in Fujian, and was also the title of a field research project in northern Fujian organized by curator Wang Che in 2025, in which the artist participated. Here, the artist transforms her experiences in local temples into a state akin to daydreaming. In Chinese, 走神 also means “to drift off” or “to be lost in thought,” forming a play on words that reflects the artist’s exploration of the blurred, fluid relationship between faith, folklore, and reality.
